Great Gatsby Hotel Allegro Wedding: Lan & Marty

Weddings

An invitation for Lan & Marty’s wedding came in the mail. I opened it and had a huge smile on my face out of excitement. Two precious people in my life finally picked a date for their wedding (after 3 years of engagement!). Besides that, they said it’s a Great Gatsby-themed wedding at Hotel Allegro in Chicago. They invited everyone to come with their best 1920s attire! These two never disappoint when it comes to style. In my head, “Oh my gosh! What are we gonna wear?!” Add to that, they picked us to be their wedding photographers! It’s definitely a first for us!

Hotel Allegro was the perfect location for this 1920s-themed occasion. The moment you walked in the door, you’re greeted with elegance and glamour. What’s not to love – the ornate railings of the grand staircase, the clean white marble floors accented by exquisite carpeting, the fancy lounge furnitures and the lavish art decors. Take your time and look at Lady Lucent of Awakening on the lobby wall when you get to visit this boutique hotel. It’s magnificent. Sarah Raskey made quite a masterpiece with this canvas.

There were countless details to highlight on this one hot summer day. The bridesmaids looked glamorous in their 1920s flapper dresses and fancy headpieces. The groomsmen looked dapper in their black tuxedoes. The florals were to die for, with their soft white and ivory blooms, with feather and brooch accents. Lan & Marty also DIY-ed their centerpieces that comprised of towering vases with ostrich feathers. Add a few votives and flower petals around the dozen tables underneath the chandeliers of the Walnut Ballroom and you got yourself a recherché party.

What we loved the most about this wedding is how sensational their families and friends were as they celebrated Lan & Marty’s union. One guy even had a whistle! Everyone was cheering, applauding and shouting in joy. Our couple felt overwhelmed by how much love they were showered with that day. I almost cried when Marty & his mom danced and cried, with the realization that her first-born is now starting a new chapter in his life. Perhaps the most noteworthy was when Marty sang the words to “Latch” while he held Lan so tight during their 1st dance as husband and wife. What else can I say, it was a fun crowd!

Congratulations Lan & Marty! We had such a great time!

What started as a childhood hobby evolved into a great passion. Hours after I got engaged, I browsed through dozens of wedding photographers' portfolios and realized I was looking at my dream job. I fell in love with the idea of telling people's stories in images rather than words. It is my utmost goal to make you look back at these memories we create together as if you're experiencing these moments again, nostalgic yet exquisite.
