Joliet Union Station Wedding: Shannon and Jon

Weddings

All smiles despite the outpouring rain! That’s what I remembered the most from this eventful day. It all started at the Harrah’s Casino in Joliet where Jon and Shannon got ready.  They decided against having a wedding party so it was a truly intimate time spent with their immediate families. We headed out to the front of Harrah’s which had these beautiful columns for their first look. It was such an exciting moment and the plan was to take a few portraits there and head out to the back of the casino, the bridge and the park across the street…when it started pouring! These two were very chill about it though. We decided to head out to prepare for their actual wedding at the Joliet Union Station.

We were blessed with clear skies when we got to the Union Station. And since we had time, we were able to take more portraits of them! The ceremony was held downstairs and was presided over by Shannon’s Aunt. Jon was beaming with joy as Shannon walked down the aisle. These two gazed at each other’s eyes when they exchanged vows as if no one else was in the room. It was pure love. You can tell how much they value families and friendship when they took the time to receive every single guest that attended after the ceremony.

This historic venue is a remarkable place. The sun was shining through the Grand Ballroom. The centerpieces were made of suitcases with platform numbers (instead of table numbers), folded maps, photos of the couple as well as a corresponding city these two have traveled to. Their wedding theme is about travel and adventure after all. Another unique element that they had was their four-tiered cake of cheese. Yes! Cheese! The wooden cake-topper was custom-made into a couple with their dog standing by a streetlight with street signs named after different international cities they have traveled to. Their entertainment for the night was a live band care of Paul Windsor Orchestra. That’s another thing you don’t see often!

Check out some of the highlights from this wonderful day!
