Chicago Botanic Garden Family Portraits

Family

There’s always a special place in my heart for Chicago Botanic Garden. I used to frequent this place when I was younger. Moreover, I had always enjoyed taking photos here whether it was with me and Erick or with my cousins. When Edelissa, one of our Spring clients (Blog Post HERE), inquired another time for a session with her in-laws, I was ecstatic to hear that they wanted Chicago Botanic Garden family portraits done. Apparently, the Valdez family matriarch and patriach, Maryann and Erich, enjoy going to that very same place.

The weather was questionable that day, with forecast of rain some hours of the day. It was the same issue we had with Edelissa’s prior session in the Spring with her immediate family (husband, Erik, and their two kids, Evan and Sofia). We had to reschedule that session a couple of times! This time, timing was crucial because Erik’s family are complete for this weekend. His sister, Erika, and her husband, Matt, were coming from out of town for this photoshoot. His younger brother, Sam, will be joining as well.

Despite the weather, we were able to push through with the session. It was drizzling here and there. However, the gloomy skies didn’t stop us from capturing quite a few wonderful moments with the family. Maryann and Erika had so much energy! They busted out a few loud laughs that made me laugh with them! They were not afraid to show their goofy sides. We all had to combine our efforts to get Evan and Sofia to look into the camera. Other than that, I felt that this session was a breeze!

I enjoyed photographing this beautiful family very much. Their closeness is endearing. Their sense of humour as a family is quite a treat to witness.

Thank you so much Valdez fam! We hope to work with you guys again in the future!

What started as a childhood hobby evolved into a great passion. Hours after I got engaged, I browsed through dozens of wedding photographers' portfolios and realized I was looking at my dream job. I fell in love with the idea of telling people's stories in images rather than words. It is my utmost goal to make you look back at these memories we create together as if you're experiencing these moments again, nostalgic yet exquisite.
